Yellow Rocket

We have been excited to try out our Chariot (shameless plug) bike trailer for kids. We were fortunate to find a closeout price on one of these great trailers (shameless plug #2) this past winter on a '07 - '08 model. We have heard mixed feelings and results from other parents who have tried bicycle trailers. We think we picked a winner! Kiefer has logged about 50 miles in the seat of his yellow rocket which included about 3 hours worth of naps while feeling the breeze in his hair. We have tugged the little guy along our neighborhood bike routes, bike paths, crushed limestone trails and even several 1/2 foot deep water crossings (flooded parking areas) all with success, safety and comfort.
Our "tip" for anyone wanting to use a bike trailer for their little ones..... GET FENDERS!
No matter how uncool it is to have fenders on your bike it will save your investment, child's eyes and make the experience all worth it. We have full wheel fenders on our bikes and there is still a little bit of sand and grit that ends up in his cockpit. We will be adding some extended mud flaps to our bikes to hopefully spare him from any wheel grit. We have heard stories of children that have been peppered with sand, mud and gravel during bike rides that now refuse to go back into a bike trailer.
Happy Trails!
(PS. We do have a helmet for Kiefer, we are still working on getting him comfortable wearing it!)
