My birthday

Although Kiefer was a little disappointed to find out that another birthday was here, and it was NOT his, I think he still had a great day. By the end of the day he would say 'mama's birthday' joyfully, instead of pointing at himself and saying 'you' as he did in the morning (indicating that it should really be HIS birthday again.)

We started the morning with a trip to Cadiz Springs State Park. This is one of the parks under Brad's management, and he assured me that no one ever goes here, and that it would be a perfect spot for Kiefer to go kayaking for the first time.

No sooner than we had parked the car, when a bus full of kids pulled up alongside, each armed with a fishing pole and tackle box. My heart sunk, as I imagined our quiet birthday paddle turning into sheer chaos, as only 40 8-11 year olds can do. However, Kiefer was thrilled, as 'yellow schoolbuses' are currently at the top of his favorite things list.

Luckily for us, the kids fanned out around the lake, and didn't bother us a bit (except for when I fed Leo - why is it right when you need to whip out a boob there is a parade of 40 kids walking past you, looking at you quizzically? Luckily, I had a blanket to cover myself so as not to shock their delicate constitutions.)

Now you might think the best part of Kiefer's day would be hanging out in a boat with his favorite people, looking for frogs and trailing his little fingers in the water. He had a blast, but I think it might have been a close second to the personal tour the bus driver gave him of the now empty schoolbus. He ran up and down the aisle, looking at all of the seats, windows, and confirming the presence of both a front and back door.

I'm not sure if Leo had quite as much fun as the rest of us...but who knows. He was fed and took a nap - pretty much the highlights of his day anyway!
